Route 3 is to the west of Motostoke and you’ll need to cross it in order to reach the Galar Mine, which is another obstacle along the way to your eventual goal of reaching Turffield.
It’s a fairly straightforward route, thankfully, with a few Trainers to fight and some new Pokémon to encounter.
Quick Version
- Head through the route and make your way to the Galar Mine.
- You’ll run into Sonia near the start of the route and she’ll give you the Escape Rope.
- The path is very straightforward, so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting lost. Just remember that you’re generally going west and then north.
- Talk to the lady outside of the mine and she’ll heal up your Pokémon.
Items on the Route
- Hidden Burn Heal near the start of the route, west through the grass by the cliff with a TM on top of it.
- Escape Rope from Sonia (mentioned above).
- Head south after talking to Sonia to reach a Berry Tree as well as TM37 Beat Up.
- Super Potion in the field of grass directly south of the Galar Mine entrance.

Route 3 is a route to the west of Motostoke and the first step on your way to reaching your goal of Turffield. It’s a fairly straightforward route, thankfully.
There’s a hidden Big Mushroom by the big tree near the start of the route, above the first patch of grass on the route.
Keep going to the west and you’ll find Lass Rei. She can be avoided if you just go through the northern grass. You’ll want to check that out anyway to pick up 3 Heal Balls right by the ledge.
Further west is Schoolgirl Hannah with her lone Pancham, which shouldn’t be much of a threat. Take it down and then continue forward, where you’ll find a branching path. Go west and you’ll find a dead end with a sign next to it, along with a hidden Burn Heal.
You’ll want to head north to progress, leading you to another patch of grass as well as a Trainer, Schoolboy Marvin, who is just wandering around and is avoidable.
Past Schoolboy Marvin lies Sonia, who is waiting for you and taking a look at the building in the distance. She makes some small talk about Chairman Rose and about the company he owns, then gives you the Escape Rope item, which allows you to escape from most “dungeon” locations like caves and forests. Unlike previous games, the Escape Rope is now a Key Item, meaning it can be used an unlimited number of times, so definitely make use of it if you get lost inside of a cave and want to quickly get back to the entrance. She also heals up your Pokémon to make sure they’re in good shape.
You’re now free to continue along the way. The next few patches of grass have vastly different overworld encounters in them, although the random shaking grass encounters remain the same.

You’re all but guaranteed to find Rolycoly in here, which is a pretty decent Rock-type that turns into a Rock/Fire-type as it evolves. Go to the south of that patch to fight Schoolgirl Kayleigh and pick up TM37 Beat Up that she guards, along with a berry tree, otherwise continue north and fight against Postman Tad, or just walk right past him if you’d rather not fight.
Past Tad is a campsite set up by an NPC Trainer, Becca. You can talk to her and she’ll give you a Cheri Berry, but you can also talk to the tent to visit Becca’s camp and see her Pokémon playing around, which include a Yamper, Vulpix, Oddish, Bounsweet, Wooloo, and Stufful. You can interact with them similarly to Pokémon in your own camp and can also get a little bit of extra help making curry. It’s a good idea to at least talk to the Trainer outside of any camp you see on routes in the game, as either that or visiting the camp will allow you to fly back to that point on the route from the Corviknight Taxi.
Keep going west and you’ll have to fight Schoolboy Peter. One of the Pokémon he uses is a Sizzlipede, which is a very rare random encounter here on Route 3 normally, but if you want to get one, a good tip is to lead with a Pokémon with the ability Flash Fire, as that will attract Fire-type Pokémon and Sizzlipede is the only Pokémon that is a Fire-type that can be found in the shaking grass (not the overworld). You’re almost at the end! Through the patches of grass to the west is a Super Potion, and then directly north of that is the cavern entrance leading into the Galar Mine. There are 2 X Defenses hidden to the right of the cavern entrance, and you can also talk to the lady to the left of the entrance and she’ll heal up your Pokémon. It’s a good idea to heal them up before continuing into the mine.
