Introduction

As soon as you boot up the game for the first time, you’ll be greeted with either a Pikachu or an Eevee, depending on which version you have. For those of you that are curious, it’s at this point that you can determine whether your Pikachu or Eevee is male or female — female Pikachu have a heart-shaped tail and female Eevee have a less-bristly white part of their tail, also somewhat resembling a heart.

This may be a factor for some players, as this Pokémon will be a staple Pokémon for your team, but rest assured, it is merely a cosmetic difference and does not affect either Pokémon’s stats or usefulness, so either reset until you get the desired gender for your Pikachu or Eevee or just accept whichever is chosen for you at random.

After the starting screen, you’ll be given a menu asking which language you’d like to play the game on. While you are free to play the game in whichever language you’d like, please keep in mind that this walkthrough is written in English. You can’t change your game’s language after you start the game, unless you erase your save or use a different profile, although thankfully this is clearly explained.

Professor Oak will appear after you’ve chosen your language and will give you the rundown of the Pokémon world. You’ll then be given an option of selecting your Trainer’s appearance. You can play as either a boy or a girl and both options have four different skin tones and hair colors to choose. This, too, is purely cosmetic and makes no functional difference in the gameplay, so choose whichever one suits you best. Afterwards, you’ll have the option of giving your Trainer a name up to 12 characters long.

You’ll then need to give a name for your rival. If you’re familiar with the older games, you may be expecting a certain character here instead, but this is a new character altogether. You can name him whatever you’d like, but if you’d like to stick to his canon name, it’s Trace. That is what he will be referred to throughout the course of this walkthrough.

Finally, after all of that is out of the way, you’ll be sucked into the world of Pokémon Let’s Go and arrive in your home in Pallet Town.
