Today’s Nintendo Direct started with a new trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet & Violet DLC: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, showing some gameplay footage and sharing some details on the upcoming two-part DLC.

The Teal Mask (Part 1)

The first part, The Teal Mask, takes place on the island of Kitakami for a school trip, and centers around a town known as Mossui Town.

Statues of the Loyal Three—the new Pokémon, Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti—can be found in a park known as Loyalty Plaza, and there’s also a festival known as the Festival of Masks.

Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti’s Ability: Toxic Chain

The official website has also shown off the new Ability that the Loyal Three all have: Toxic Chain. Toxic Chain has a chance of badly poisoning the target Pokémon whenever they use a damaging move against the target. In the screenshots above, you can see Fezandipiti using Air Slash and badly poisoning Meowscarada as a result—it is also worth noting that Air Slash does not make contact, so unlike Abilities such as Poison Touch, it appears this can trigger with any damaging move.

Version Exclusives

Several Pokémon found in Kitakami are version exclusive, meaning that you’ll only be able to find some of them in the wild while playing Pokémon Scarlet and others will only be found in the wild in Pokémon Violet. One example of this is Aipom and Gligar, with Gligar only available in Scarlet and Aipom only available in Violet.

The Indigo Disk (Part 2)

The second part of the DLC, known as The Indigo Disk, takes place at the Blueberry Academy in a distant land. It houses the Terarium, an undersea biodome that houses four distinct biomes where numerous Pokémon reside. These biomes each have their own climate and ecosystem, and there’s an artificial sky that’s projected onto the walls of this undersea haven to reflect the time of day and weather on the surface, according to the official website.
