The Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes weren’t the only new things teased during the Pokémon Presents live stream, nor were they the only things taking place in the Sinnoh region.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a new game in the Pokémon series, set in the Sinnoh region’s past, long before it had become widely settled by humans. Only one small settlement of people appear to be in the Sinnoh region in this game, and you’ll be able to explore the region in its earlier days in this Action RPG take on a Pokémon game, planned for a worldwide release in early 2022.

More About the Game

As the game takes place far in Sinnoh’s past, it is sparse and unpopulated by humans, although many wild Pokémon can be found roaming around in the region, and you can throw a Poké Ball with your Pokémon in it to initiate a battle with them.

The setting appears to offer an open-world style, looking similar to games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Poké Balls are also a bit different; with the game taking place far in the past, the Poké Balls of that era used mostly wood and steam puffs from the top of them when they catch a Pokémon.

You’ll be able to choose one of three different starter Pokémon, although none of them are native to the Sinnoh region. You can pick either Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott.

Your goal is to create Sinnoh’s first Pokédex by exploring the Sinnoh region and fighting in battles that appear to be a mix of action and RPG elements, based on what was shown in the video and mentioned in the press release, although how exactly that will work is presently still a mystery.

The game also centers around, you guessed it, the Mythical Pokémon Arceus and the majestic Mount Coronet at the heart of the Sinnoh region. It will likely play a pivotal role throughout your journey.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is planned for a worldwide launch sometime in early 2022.
