Today’s Pokémon Presents video revealed information on various Pokémon mobile titles, but also a lot of information on Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, such as the region’s name—Paldea—as well as some of its mechanics.

New Pokémon

Two new Pokémon were revealed today, along with a new Paldean form of an existing Pokémon.

Fidough

Fidough

Fidough is a Fairy-type puppy Pokémon with the ability Own Tempo.

Cetitan

Cetitan

Cetitan is a massive Ice-type Pokémon classified as a “Tera Whale” Pokémon. It has either Thick Fat or Slush Rush for its ability.

Paldean Wooper

Wooper now has its own regional form, in the form of Paldean Wooper. Paldean Wooper is a Poison/Ground-type with either Poison Point or Water Absorb for its ability.

Paldea Region

The region in the game is called the Paldea region and it is a large, open-world region. In its center is the city of Mesagoza, which contains either the Naranja Academy or the Uva Academy, depending on which version you’re playing.

Terastal Phenomenon

One of the new battle mechanics is something known as the Terastal Phenomenon, which allows every Pokémon to transform into a crystalline form that changes its type to something else. It can be used only once per battle, but it remains transformed for the duration of the fight.

While in its Terastallized form, the Pokémon has a Tera Jewel that corresponds to its type atop its head, and it also powers up its moves of that same type. A Tera Orb is needed in order to Terastallize a Pokémon, and it requires recharging either by resting at a Pokémon Center or by touching certain crystals while exploring.

Tera Raid Battles

Similar to Max Raid Battles from Pokémon Sword & Shield, Tera Raid Battles are 4-vs-1 battles where you and up to three other players can fight against a Terastallized Pokémon. This is one way that you are able to get Terastallized Pokémon of different types, which are shown to you before the battle starts.

Unlike Max Raid Battles, players can command their Pokémon without waiting for their allies to finish their turns, suggesting the fights are only semi-turn based. This may add extra strategies to have certain players time attacks or effects at just the right time.

Legendary Rides!

While the two Legendary Pokémon for the games, Koraidon and Miraidon, were previously revealed back in June, it has now been confirmed that you’ll use them to traverse the Paldea region, as they allow you to ride on them to travel faster and clear specific terrain.

More Information

There’s more information about the games that goes beyond the scope of this update post and will instead be added to the site’s Pokémon Scarlet & Violet section throughout the day, so please check that out later in the day for more, or refer to the press release for more details.
