January 2017 is generally regarded as the dawn of the modern Marriland streaming era, where streaming shifted from a once-a-week affair to a regular activity with a regular schedule to go with it. The plan was to have content — and lots of it — recorded live on Twitch, then break it up into segments for YouTube.
Although this strategy would also introduce non-Pokémon videos to the channel, it was firm in its commitment to have one recurring Nuzlocke or similar variant going at pretty much all times, going through each generation in sequential order, starting with the Pokémon Blue Nuzlocke in January 2017.
It was played on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console release of the game, so color was not an option for it, but it still had a bit of a charm to it.

Rules of the Challenge
Standard Nuzlocke Rules
- You can catch only the first Pokémon encountered or obtained in any route or area.
- Fainted Pokémon are considered “dead” and must be released (or permanently boxed).
- (Optional) Everything should be given a nickname to form a better attachment to it.
Additional Rules
In addition to the standard Nuzlocke rules, there were a few extra rules, clauses, and modifications. Here they are, copied from the description:
- Must play on SET the whole time.
- Can use a max of 3 items per battle (excluding Poké Ball varieties and Key Items; X Items are not allowed)
- A Level Limit is enforced and increases after every Badge; I must deposit Pokémon that exceed the limit.
- No Dupes Clause! Also no Gift Clause. Safari Zone will be treated as one area and I throw Safari Balls until something is caught (even if my first encounter runs away).
