The first stream that Marriland ever did on Twitch was the Pokémon FireRed vs LeafGreen Sleeplocke, where he challenged his friend and soon-to-be staff member for the Marriland website, Sephazon, in a marathon Nuzlocke challenge through FireRed and LeafGreen. Marriland played through LeafGreen while Sephazon played FireRed.
The stream would last for over 22 hours, covering the entire game, and was one of the first, if not the first Sleeplocke challenge ever streamed live, all the way back in September 2013.
It took awhile before this series was ever archived on YouTube, existing only as an ancient stream highlight on Twitch for the longest time. In 2017, it was added to Marriland’s YouTube channel, broken up into several pieces to make it easier to digest.

Rules of the Challenge
Standard Nuzlocke Rules
- You can catch only the first Pokémon encountered or obtained in any route or area.
- Fainted Pokémon are considered “dead” and must be released (or permanently boxed).
- (Optional) Everything should be given a nickname to form a better attachment to it.
Sleeplocke Rule
- The player of the game loses the challenge if they, personally, fall asleep, meaning the game must be beaten in a single day or play session.
- For most players, they are free to take breaks, save their game and come back later, grab a bite to eat, etc., as long as they don’t fall asleep. In the context of a stream, this is generally one sitting and one giant stream session.
Additional Rules
- There were no additional rules, clauses, restrictions or modifications to the standard rules for this challenge.
